EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (abc40)-- A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Monday in East Longmeadow for Blu Homes. The company manufactures green, environmentally friendly modular homes. Bill Haney is the President of Blu Homes, "The goal is to build homes that could drop your energy bills by 75%, that cost $100,000 or less and they could be built on site in a week

There are three homes currently under construction at the East Longmeadow plant. Company officials say Blu Homes are built with the highest green standards and energy efficiency in mind.

Local officials like Selectman Jim Driscoll welcome the company, "This is a great win for not just East Longmeadow but the Greater Springfield area, there are great green jobs which are good for the economy and the environment."

Right now the East Longmeadow employs about 15 people. That number could grow to 150 if the plant reaches its full capacity and that would mean building 500 homes a year.
