Buying Process
Often a clear-cut process for designing and buying a home is lacking when managing the myriad of contractors, sub-contractors, consultants, designers, and tradesmen needed to build a well-designed, eco-friendly home. The professional team at Blu Homes manages the entire building process at the agreed contract price and the steps outline below maximize time efficiencies from beginning to end.
Time Frame: Your Blu Home will take 4-6 weeks to build in the factory, generally a day for installation and then subject to your house design between one to two weeks before the keys are yours. We seek to absolutely minimize site work, which in most other home building processes is where budgets are missed and extra time is wasted.

Acquiring Land & Permits: in the Blu Homes process, the only part the customer is entirely responsible for is acquiring the land & permits. However, Blu Homes uses the EcoBroker program, a network of realtors across the U.S. that are focused on sustainable, green housing, and we would be happy to refer you to an EcoBroker we know (see http://www.ecobroker.com/ to learn more about the program) in your area that can help you find land. In addition, at Blu Homes your personal designer will be happy to help you through the permitting process as needed through submissions of designs, etc.
Mortgage Financing: with the boom in interest in “green” homes, the lenders focused on financing green homes have increased. We are partnered with several lenders to ensure that you receive a loan for your Blu Home that fits your needs. Blu Homes is happy to assist in the process of putting you in touch with these preferred lenders.
Custom Design: You deserve a home fitted to your family’s needs and tastes. You customize the design you choose for interior finish and fixtures, site placement, cladding, and specifications on windows and green products. We aim to be flexible and to help you configure a home that will be fun, aesthetically pleasing, and healthy for your family.
Site Prep: Our design can be used with various foundations and sites. In line with our focus on green building, Blu Homes have been designed to sit lightly on the land – with pier foundations that are quick to install and inexpensive. However, Blu Homes can be installed on full poured concrete basements, insulated concrete forms (ICFs) or partial concrete foundations. Blu Homes helps you choose the foundation that is right for you, and manages the process of excavation and foundation.
Off-Site Home Construction: Our homes are built off site by our manufacturing partner, in a factory setting. Homes are constructed to very high quality standards, and customers may visit the factory over the course of the building process, which lasts up to about 6 weeks. In addition, Blu sends customers detailed photos online in order to track the progress of their homes.
Tax Credits & Rebates: Please refer to Rebates and Tax Incentives
Installation & Finish: Blu Homes are typically installed in a day, with interior “finish” details by the Blu Homes team occurring over one to two weeks. Finish details include installing the flooring or carpeting, painting, and double-checking insulation at the joints of the home. In addition, at this point Blu Homes and the customer undertake final inspection and we rectifiy any defects. When the keys are handed to you, you still have the peace of mind that our warranty and customer service will be available as you grow with your family in the home.
Utilities Hookup: Ensuring utilites are ready to be hooked up to the home is the joint responsibility of Blu Homes and the customer. Customers are responsible for contacting the relevant utility companies, and Blu Homes is responsible for planning the utilities hookup to the home in the design/planning stage. Blu Homes helps manage this process to ensure everything happens quickly and efficiently on site.
